WEB SITE OFFERS UPDATED EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT INFANT FORMULA

Popular “Infant Feeding and Nutrition” Brochure Now Available Online

ATLANTA (May 18, 2004) – Parents and health professionals looking for an online resource about infant formula can now find credible information on a newly designed Web site, www.infantformula.org. The site was created by the International Formula Council (IFC) as an information resource about infant formula and serves as a means to make informative brochures on infant feeding more readily available.

The IFC is an international association of manufacturers and marketers of formulated nutrition products (e.g., infant formulas and adult nutritionals) whose members are predominantly based in North America. The Council has offered educational brochures to the public for years, and now, through this site, consumers will have more immediate access to this helpful information. Printable brochures that address infant feeding topics include “Infant Formula Q & A,” providing answers to frequently asked questions, and “Infant Feeding and Nutrition,” educating new parents about a baby’s nutritional needs during the critical first year of life, are now on the Web site.

The site contains a section for parents, a section for health professionals, and links to other web resources that include infant feeding-related information, which parents and health professionals can trust.

“IFC members support breastfeeding and the American Academy of Pediatrics’ position that breastfeeding is the preferred method of infant feeding. However, if the decision is made not to breastfeed, or if breastfeeding is not possible, infants should receive iron-fortified formula,” said Mardi Mountford, executive director of the IFC.

Mountford added: “Through this Web site, we will continue to provide reliable and accurate information for new parents and others interested in infant nutrition.”
